| Saturday the cover was varied
with areas of dried sunflowers and grass, wooded areas, and areas of marsh
grass and cattails. Due to dry conditions scenting was a little
tough and made tracking hard for the brace work. The 50/50 mix of
Cock and hen pheasants gave a great show. Temperatures were great
for the dogs, low to mid 30's with a nice breeze. We started with
20 dogs with 11 going to the third series. We searched out moisture
for the third series and found it in the cattail marsh. This greatly
improved the show of bird finding and tracking with many dogs taking runners.
It was awesome to watch the dogs perform in hunting cover! Great
day had by all that tested the dogs to a very high standard!
2 champions were made. It was the first trial for the winning dog!

| Sunday was a different day. The
moisture started and scenting was better. We modified the course
slightly but it consisted of the same type of cover as Saturday. We started
with 13 dogs and had 6 to the third series. For the 3rd, on this
day, we did a willow draw that gave everyone a great view of the dog work!
History was again made in Colorado with the first AFC English Cocker title
being awarded!

| Monday we woke to snow! We had
moved to new grounds on the River bottom of the South Platte river.
This was mature cottonwoods, willows, grass, and buffalo berry cover with
slightly changing topography. This was the picture perfect day!
We started with about 4 inches of fresh snow on the ground and snow falling!
This day were ran on chukars rather than the pheasants that we had on days
1 and 2. The dogs and gunners performed great in these conditions!
We had one dog that had a triple flush, all 3 were shot, with 2 being picked
by one dog and the last one picked by the brace mate. It was perfect!
There were many pairs flushed as well as the triple. We ran the 3rd
in cover consistent with the brace work. We started with 16 dogs
with 7 dogs to the 3rd. By the time the trial was over we had
about 8 inches of fresh snow.

Friday started off with poor scenting conditions
and tough bird finding but then improved. Saturday a cold front came in
and there were some showers. Fresh snow on the Bridger mountains made for
an incredible backdrop. Scenting was better. First and second series were
run in open fields with mixed grasses and good trees/creeks/heavy cover
along the edges – some tough retrieving. Third series of both Open and
Amateur were run along creek/tree lines with one gun on the far side. Birds
were pheasant/chukar in the 1st and 2nd with some huns added in the 3rd.
Altogether the courses made for some great dog work.
